System Description
The York County Comprehensive Communications System is a 800MHz P25 Phase 1 system owned and operated by York County, SC Government. It is used by approximately 2,600 local government officials and first responders that include others such as the Catawba Indian Nation and the York County Natural Gas Authority. The system also supports mutual aid communications with over 10,000 local, state, and Federal partners from North and South Carolina. There is one primary Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) and five secondary PSAPs that all use this system to dispatch their responders.
The system was purchased from Motorola Solutions and went live on January 17, 2007 with the Sheriff's Office being the first full user of the network. The system is comprised of 9 tower sites that make up a single simulcast cell. All voice and control channels are 800MHz, but the system also includes a 900MHz alpha-numeric paging system for notification of first responders. There is also a 4-site data system overlay of Motorola's High Performance Data mainly used for location services at this point.
The system is managed by the York County Department of Public Safety Communications - Technical Services Unit.
